Canadian Homeowners Prefer Home Renovations Versus New Home Builds
July 10th, 2019– Sudbury, ON – Canada – The growing trend for Canadian home owners choosing to renovate their homes instead of building new is increasing significantly according to a CIBC poll released in June. This year more than 49% of Canadians plan to renovate their homes according to the poll. This is a 4% increase over 2018. According to the Canadian Home Builders’ Association, the home renovation trend will increase even more over the next five years.
“Many homeowners make a decision to build new based on their need for more space. However, a smarter layout that adds more functional space can help homeowners avoid moving.” states Louie Zagordo, President of SLV Homes.
This is great news for Sudbury’s SLV Homes who was recently awarded the National Award for Housing Excellence by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association. The CHBA annual awards ceremony recognizes the industry’s best in home renovations and new home builds. One of SLV Homes’ recent projects won the award for its home renovation transformation.
The homeowners of this award-winning renovation named “The Aspenwood,” selected SLV Homes for their positive reputation of craftsmanship and attention to detail. They had heard that SLV Homes had won numerous local home building and renovation awards, and had been nominated numerous times for national awards.
The homeowners loved their present location and envisioned an open concept scenario that included a free-flowing functional space to prepare and enjoy meals with guests and family at the same time. Their dream design included an open concept foyer, the addition of a mud room, laundry room and pantry on the home’s main floor.
The design challenges in this home renovation project seemed numerous. The renovation involved removing supporting kitchen walls and extending the floor to cover an open-to-below space. Two support beams were integrated on each side of the kitchen island while creating a visually pleasing design. SLV Homes, along with their architects and engineers, created a design to extend floor joists across the open area below to create the beautiful open concept experience the couple wanted.
The customers indicated they got exactly what they had hoped for; a fully functional open-concept space that included a laundry room, mud room, pantry and newly-designed open concept kitchen space.
